I'm certainly my mother's child. Ever since I was young it's been a joke in my family to confused mine and my mum's baby photos, I'm the spitting image of her and I hope that continues into my adulthood.

I recently stole this jumpsuit from the back of her wardrobe. I'd been looking for a boiler suit style piece for aaaages, so when she pulled out this one it was a dream. But it became even dreamier when she told me that not only had she worn it the night she met my dad, but that it had been my Aunty's too beforehand. The best kind of family heirloom.


It's becoming clear that I'm becoming my mother. Regularly my outfit choices are met with her saying "I used to have something like that!" Jeans, leather jackets, high top trainers, playsuits, and culottes, my 2018 wardrobe is strangely similar to my mum's late 80s wardrobe. After years of laughing at old photos of my parents in their 20s, I now see myself in them, or envy their outfits. Photos of my mum in amazing trainers, sleek black jumpsuits, and sheer tops make my heart flutter (and don't even get me started on my mum and dad's honeymoon photos), it feels like life's gone full circle, reminds me that her 20s and my 20s aren't so different; she's been through it all so her advice is real. And maybe her fashion advice is too, maybe I shouldn't buy that top.


And it's not even just her, my eyes are set firmly on 80s icons and inspirations at the minute. I'm obsessed with Kim Wilde's low maintenance grunge, her all black mixed texture outfit are giving me endless inspiration for work wear. I love Princess Diana's eclectic style, serving everything from oversized jumpers with cycling shorts, to gingham trousers and frilly high necks. I keep Bananarama in mind each time I reach for jeans and a plain black crop top, and I know they'd approve of my vintage leather jacket slung over the top. It makes me want to reach for my more tailored pieces, with sharper lines and bolder patterns. It makes me want to start each day with a slick of bright pink eyeshadow, and dabble more in blue mascara. It makes me want to wear all the things that younger Lucy would have turned her nose up at, but a younger version of my mum would have loved.

We're so lucky to have years and years of fashion legacy behind us, endless sources of inspo from runways, films, music videos, even politics from the past. We're blessed with a unrivalled back catalogue of fashion icons to look to, and my mama is a firm favourite of mine.

All my dreams lately are a pale white glow, of a crisp shirt softening over time. I need one.

I've always been cautious of a white shirt. I thought one might make me look too work-wear or too school girl like. But after re-watching Breakfast At Tiffany's, all I can think about it Audrey in that crisp, white night shirt. She makes such a structures piece look so effortless and cosy, she wears the shirt, it doesn't wear her, it's just an extension of herself.

Robert Mapplethorpe's photo of Patti Smith for her album Horses crosses my mind at least twice a day, but it wasn't until recently that I really saw that. shirt. Softened at the collar and slightly oversized, so it looks like she has never worn anything other than that white shirt. The masculine image of Patti's sharp face in a shirt, given a touch of femininity and a whole handful of power as she holds the undone tie, dishevelled hair, undone buttons. I always loved the power in the image, but the power in the clothes is something that's only recently crossed my mind. And now I want to buy into it.

The white shirt has always been an iconic piece. It's a definite power piece. To wear one is to inevitably play into the masculine / feminine look, brought to the spotlight by YSL and remaining there ever since, gradually moving from androgyny to the mainstream. And now the high-street is in a constant battle of who can make the most timelessly beautiful white shirt; my vote is with Zara.

Zara has any white shirt you could want at the minute- classic, embroidered, patterned, tied at the waist, cropped, bell sleeved etc etc etc. I've always had heart-eyes for Zara shirts but deflected for pieces that really styled themselves. But the time has gone, I must have one.

The ability a white shirt gives you to move from Audrey Hepburn, to Jane Birkin, to Patti Smith with only slight changes and saying good bye to your iron. Power in the image, power in the choice is gives.

Sofia Coppola's The Virgin Suicides is completely captivating. Not only is the plot suspenseful and gripping, the cinematics and visuals are classic Coppola and as beautiful and enthralling as ever. The baby pinks and greens fading to darker greys and blue with the mood, the blonde main characters, the ethereal babe that is young kristen dunst, the clothes, the music, all add up to a 2000s daydream.

I think the beautiful of the fashion in The Virgin Suicides lies in it's subtlety. It's almost accidentally sexy as the girls show flashes of skin, a rebellion when living in such strict household. This context gives a whole new life to tight, strappy tops, revealed shoulders and school-girl skirts. It's almost lolita-esque but oblivious.

I love the floral dresses in the prom scene, the pattern and range of cuts is really reminiscent of some of the new in Topshop floaty dresses. As well as Lux's tight vest / flares combo, that's definitely a silhouette on the climb back into the mainstream market. But the look on a whole is so childish and dreamy that, when placed in the dark, eerie plot, only adds to how intriguing and mysterious the characters are. That kind of early noughties, sickly-sweet girly look is so disconnected, and that's what give it a life in the film.

To recreate this, I'd been going for blue jeans with a tight t-shirt combo, or for more day dreamy nostalgia I'd go for a pastel coloured, prairie style floaty dress or skirt. Something like you would've worn when you were little and wore nothing but your sister's hand-me-downs. Something your mum would've dressed you in, or worn herself in the 70s. That's the look. Dye your hair California blonde, wear no make-up except blush and forever look distance; and you're a Lisbon sister.

Joni Mitchell is possibly my favourite singer, she's an artist I never tire of and never skip. I talked a little bit about why I love her music so much HERE but in short, I love Joni's honesty in her lyrics. Her songs are so personal that it makes them simultaneously vulnerable and powerful, and I love that. She's a women that truly inspires me and I love love love her.

Joni's discography contains so many classic folk songs such as 'Case Of You', Woodstock' and 'The Circle Game' making her totally worthy of the tile of one of the greatest songwriters of all time. She's spanned decades and crossed genres but her music remains loved and powerful with her album Blue (my personal fave) being labelled as one of the top 30 albums ever made by Rolling Stone. But as well as being a folk music queen, she's also a total 70s babe, encapsulating the ultimate laid-back 70s vibe.

Joni is one of my ultimate fashion icons and someone I always have in mind when shopping. Her look is so effortless in that true 70s hippie style. Think floaty smock tops, A-line dresses, maxi dresses and vintage t-shirts. I love that photo of Joni playing guitar in just a t-shirt and flared jeans, it's so natural but also what a look. I'm so tempted to get myself some flares...

I think really the key to her look is comfort, her outfits were never extravagant like other 70s stars. Her pieces are simple and her looks never over-done so less is more. Get in the 70s hippie mind frame and you're half way there. Alternatively, put on Joni's song 'Chelsea Morning' when you're getting dressed and you'll naturally want to put on a maxi dress and skip around.It's all about the mind set!

If you've never listened to Joni Michell honestly what are you doing. I can't recommend her enough, what a beautiful spirit. She continues to leave such a huge mark on both music and fashion even now in her old age, she's a true artist and I couldn't love her more.

When I woke up this morning all my timelines were blessed with Met Gala pictures and honestly I cried a little tear of joy. The theme was beautiful, the outfits were divine and here's a few of my fave looks...

There's few things I love more than interior design. I can spend hours and hours scrolling through pinterest planning out my dream future home and every tiny detail of what each room will look like. I especially love bedroom interior as I honestly believe that the mood of your room has a massive effect on your mood, so creating a good space is super important for creating a good head space! Wayfair UK recently put together articles on two interior trends that are everywhere at the moment, so here's how I'd recreate them, with a Lucy twist...

I love this trend as its the perfect mix of classic and modern. I love the classic French shapes and styles in mirrors and bed frames, but adding the metallic adds a little extra interest and makes everything fresh. I would opt for a neutral wall paint with subtle colours in a floral duvet cover, but add details such as candle holders, jewellery hangers and plant pots in a copper or a rose gold. I might also throw a more rustic blanket over the bed to avoid it all looking too pristine, you still want to feel cosy of course! This trend is so calming, perfect for a minimalist, de-cluttered space, and all the white/neutrals will make your room feel so much bigger and lighter.

 I'm obsessed with Scandinavian style, the fashion and the interior! It's minimalistic but layered, so think a wall of multiple photo frames, white walls with brown wood shelves, neutral floor with a patterned rug. I think scandi interior lends it's self so well for eclecticism as each item gets the attention it deserves, and the neutral background makes everything look so clean and fresh. I think my room already has elements of this trend as it's largely white with pops of colour. But I'd take this trend to the max by having a fully white room, shelves of trinkets with rose gold, grey or black details, and then either a patterned duvet cover or a plain duvet with a bold rug or throw. You can have so much fun with this trend and I think it really celebrates individuality as it places so much focus on the little details of your room. Its grown up but doesn't take itself too serious.

As Spring approaches, so does the opportunity of rebirth and a fashion reboot. It's time to (hopefully) put those winter jumpers to bed, and wander into different territories with your style. I know I definitely need to change up my style after a dull winter, so I've been looking to some long-term loves and some new obsessions for some spring style inspo...

There's been some big big trends this year and it looks like some of them are set to sail on into 2016 with us. So here's 4 things I think you should invest in before the new year (if you haven't already)

In my life I try my best to constantly surround myself with people that always inspire and better than me, and in my opinion no one can do this quite like strong women whether it be your mother, your best friends, whoever! I think, as a woman, surrounding yourself with ladies that are a super positive influence on yourself is one of the best things you can do.

Recently I made a mood board for my room so I could be constantly met with positivity and inspiration (read HERE), but I really just wanted to do a post to big up the ladies and share some of the strong women that inspire me!

 Tavi Gevinson is everything I want to become. Starting her blog at only 12, and being considered a voice of a generation by 15. Tavi, now 19, runs Rookie Mag, a site that 100% was the inspo behind me starting my magazine, and is 100% the inspiration behind where I hope to take my career. But as well as her career, Tavi always remains current. she knows what's going on and always is wise beyond her years on subjects. And I love girls like that, so I love Tavi, I want to be her bestie.

Patti Smith is my greatest inspiration in absolutely everything I do. After reading her book Just Kids, it just struck me that Patti Smith is one of the most beautiful, wise, talented, open women on the planet. And the way she has struggled, then turned her struggles into art and wisdom is so obscenely inspiring in my life. Being so humble and so beautifully intelligent and emotionally smart in spite of all she's been through and all she's achieved serves, for me, as the ultimate inspiration. Basically Patti Smith is everything to me and I don't think I've ever felt more inspired by the work of one person.


Which women inspire you most?

I've been wanting to make a pinboard that I can fill with fashion/life inspo for ages and after finding some lil pinboards that were the perfect size I finally got round to it!

I get distracted super easily so I thought if I made a pinboard full of motivation and put it up over my desk then at least my distraction will motivate me to work or create or just keep doing what I'm doing. So I took to my instagram and tumblr to gather all my fave pictures and quotes as well as images of ultimate mega babes and super inspirations- Patti Smith and Stevie Nicks. Basically I just wanted to create a really positive visual for my room, so when I'm feeling down I can immediately see some positive affirmations and influences. And so the board is covered in positivity and empowerment and I love it! (it's also a great place to stick reminders and to-do lists so you always remember them)

It was so super easy to make- all you need is a pinboard or two, some scissors and pins and a decent printer. And voila a manifestation board so help better your state of mind and your bedroom interior!

Over the summer I'm going to re-decorate my bedroom so I've started compiling some pictures as inspo. I want to create a really calm, 'zen' space that still feels cosy so I'm loving the thought of calming paint colours with warm pops of colour via a wall hanging or decorations. I'm totally in love with the stick hanging dream catchers, it's so simple yet such a beautiful touch to a room. I'm really drawn to boho/hippie interiors; all the little details make the space so beautiful, so I really want to recreate that in my room.

Basically I want my bedroom to be Misty Day's hut from American Horror Story coven, a space I can be free to spin around like Stevie Nicks at my hearts content...
